Antuco was an orphan with what looked like only one choice left in his life but luck had other things in mind.

In Chile there was a young man by the name of Antuco. He was an orphan that did the best that he could by working as a farmhand. His hard work made another employee who was lazy and a drunk very jealous of the favor that Antuco won with their foreman. This employee managed to get Antuco blamed for something that he didn’t do and consequently fired.

When Antuco was fired he decided to go to Santiago to join the army because that was the only option left for an orphan like him. After traveling for a full day he camped for the night, while sleeping he had a vision. An old woman was sitting by his fire warming herself. When he inquired who she was, she told him she was his luck. Every child is born with luck but she had been sleeping until now. She then instructed Antuco that as he traveled to Santiago he will come across a stranger who will ask him a favor. If he were to help this stranger out he would be blessed with good luck.

The next morning as he traveled along the road he met a stranger who told him that his wife was about to have a child and they didn’t have a godfather for her. His brother was supposed to be the godfather but he was too sick to travel. The stranger then asked if Antuco would help them out of their dire situation and become the godfather to their child. Remembering the dream he had the night before he agreed that he would.

After the baby was born and the formalities with Antuco’s new title were completed, the couple and Antuco started to talk. The husband told Antuco of some very strange dreams that he had about a genie that told him if he went to specific location in the desert at the location he would find a ball of yarn. He was then to throw this ball of yarn over his shoulder and follow where it led. There he would find a genie who would give him all the money he could dream of. The husband and wife had brushed it off as just a strange dream. However, Antuco thought better of it given the luck he had so far. Antuco followed the instructions that were laid out in the dream and came across a genie. This genie not only gave Antuco great wealth but he also became his servant, as long as Antuco had the ball of yarn, this yarn was what controlled him. Antuco received great wealth and then shared it with the couple that had told him the dream. He then decided to go to the place he had always dreamed of visiting, England. While there he was perceived as a prince and won the princess’s hand in marriage. Antuco lived happily ever after.
